I Am What I Am

I am what I am
I am my own special creation
So come take a look
Give me the hook or the ovation
Its my world
That I want to have a little pride in
My world
And its not a place I have to hide in
Lifes not worth a damn
Till you can say
I am what I am
I am what I am
I dont want praise I dont want pity
I bang my own drum
Some think its noise I think its pretty
And so what if I love each sparkle and each bangle
Why not try to see things from a different angle
Your life is a sham
Till you can shout out
I am what I am

Kickin It With Your Girlfriend

I've been kickin it with your girlfriend (oh)
What am i gonna do (oh)
Cuz God knows that i really didn't mean to hurt you (oh ooh)
I know its bogus, but i felt that you should know the truth (oh ooh)
I fell in love with her the moment we were introduced
And i just feel that its time for little secret to end
Baby im kickin it with your girlfriend
oh oh ooh oh oh oh oh ooh oh oh oh (2x)
Go on and slap me again cuz i can understand how you feel
When a man takes you for granted and he don't keep it real
I should have been more man and told you a long time ago
Instead of stuntin i should have broke it down and let you know
Girl my fault for that, don't know whats on my mind
And i blame myself for wasting your time
Believe i really tried to keep that girl away from me
But her body language kept on temptin and teasin me
And plus she knew what she was doin, and did it anyway
I knew what she was doin too and that made it ok
Truth is, is that we don't even regret it
Up out the closet i will be the first to say it

The Eve Of St. Agnes

ST Agnes' Eve---Ah, bitter chill it was!
The owl, for all his feathers, was a-cold;
The hare limp'd trembling through the frozen grass,
And silent was the flock in woolly fold:
Numb were the Beadsman's fingers, while he told
His rosary, and while his frosted breath,
Like pious incense from a censer old,
Seem'd taking flight for heaven, without a death,
Past the sweet Virgin's picture, while his prayer he saith.

His prayer he saith, this patient, holy man;
Then takes his lamp, and riseth from his knees,
And back returneth, meagre, barefoot, wan,
Along the chapel aisle by slow degrees:
The sculptur'd dead, on each side, seem to freeze,
Emprison'd in black, purgatorial rails:
Knights, ladies, praying in dumb orat'ries,
He passeth by; and his weak spirit fails
To think how they may ache in icy hoods and mails.

Cleaning The Closet

Clear out the clutter
Open the closet door
Take a look around
What is there?

Emotions, habits,
beliefs, people.
The closet must be
cleared,

to make room for the
new.
Exude positive energy.

Someone Else's Shoes

As I look through my closet of
poetry I realized that many of my
poems are someone else's shoes.
I was never a woman who had one breast
removed. For that’s someone else's shoes.
Nor did I know a man who hung himself
by the laces of his old brown shoes.
Once again that's someone else's shoes.
Neither was I on crack or a little
homeless girl named Suzy Brown.
Those too are someone else's shoes.
Now as I close my closet of poetry
I realize that in order for me to be true
to my art of poetry. I must sometimes
be willing to walk in someone else's shoes.

An Old Soldier's Closet

The old soldier's closet holds memorabilia
in which he enjoys to reminisce and browse,
and thoughts of his military service to the
Nation gradually begins to rouse.

This is a closet where moth balls abound
with hangers of uniforms from former bases
still neatly pressed and offering him
an imaginary trip to former world places.

The old soldier's uniforms hanging there
suggests an earlier military styling
and instantly his present thoughts
with his past service is reconciling.

Staring at all the military paraphernalia
transfers him from this modern plane -
with teary eyes and a spirit of humbleness,
he is a dedicated soldier again.

They Use to Be in The Closet

Mommy...
What are illegal lesbians?
'No, honey...
They are aliens.'

So the aliens are lesbians?
'No, baby...
The lesbians are legal.
But the aliens are not.'

So...?
Who are the homosexuals?
'Well...
That's a tough one.
At one time,
They use to be in the closet.
Today...
You can't tell who's what!
Or what's going on!
Whether they are downlow in the closet...

Out of the Closet, I am Free...

the pain could only gain, the wound that locks
my emotional hysteria, as the sleepless night
glance my window down the slippery road of my
command

grave in the deep inside my dream and hear,
the sad sudden sound of my ghastly teeth of the
holocaust of my midnight rest, don’t you find the
finest cloth of my fly; please release my bright
shadow and live my flourishing side in your heart

freedom now bright my eyes and see the dreaming
light, up in the closet that the water flows and say
goodbye, imagine all the passing transgressor, as
they live in the field of the waiting world of fancy,
whose grip wonders into the soul of immature cell

dust comes in the sudden and hidden wind, as it
say, come and thou shall not return to the dust and
fly inside my wings. letting it end my life, so I say

Red Lace

I espied a red glint
In between the cracks
On the wooden panels
Of a locked up closet

How many sphinxes
Stood guard with riddles.
Halting curious eyes?
No sentinel more vigilant

I caught glimpse of a
Red lace stuck
Between mahogany doors,
Some past vanity imagined

Standing there unmoving,
Drawn by intrigue, I was
Like a cat sniffing on
A netted pantry window

Triple Homicide

I'm glad the fighting's stopped
the house is silent
empty
this is how I like it

no yelling
no fights
no broken glass
silence

when they're both gone I'm happy
but when they come home
I go straight to my room
I try to be quiet
as I listen to music in the closet

the fight begins
there screaming
this time I hear my name
I ignore it
