Drunk Driving
I went to a party, Mom, I remembered what you said.
You told me not to drink, Mom, so I drank soda instead
I really felt proud inside, Mom, the way you said I would.
I didn't drink and drive, Mom, even though the others said I should.
I know I did the right thing, Mom, I know you are always right.
Now the party is finally ending
Mom, as everyone is driving out of sight.
As I got into my car, Mom, I knew I'd get home in one piece.
Because of the way you raised me, so responsible and sweet.
I started to drive away, Mom, but as I pulled out into the road,
the other car didn't see me, Mom, and hit me like a load.
As I lay there on the pavement, Mom, I hear the policeman say,
the other guy is drunk, Mom, and now I'm the one who will pay.
I'm lying here dying, Mom.. I wish you'd get here soon.
How could this happen to me, Mom? My life just burst like a balloon.
There is blood all around me, Mom, and most of it is mine.
I hear the medic say, Mom, I'll die in a short time.

One Last Question......
I went to a party Mom,
I remembered what you said.
You told me not to drink, Mom,
So I drank soda instead.
I really felt proud inside, Mom,
The way you said I would.
I didn't drink and drive, Mom,
Even though the others said I should.
I know I did the right thing, Mom,
I know you are always right.
Now the party is finally ending, Mom,

Because of the way you raised me,
So responsible and sweet.

Don't mix drinking and driving.

If bodies of their own heal
I
Two scores of ripe years ere, remember I,
At shower, shaving mirror, shaping hair,
Bending elbow when turns annoying nigh,
I wonder when, how my hurt hushed in there
Unknown to me, as seasons oft set in
Early or late, till one day forced are we
To tune into the change though not keen;
More than the dull pain, hurt irritates me.
The medic I consult, cool as was I,
But more sure, call it a tennis elbow,
Me in protest, not having played the game,
Laugh it off a little respectfully,
The doc unmoved as e'er, letting me know:
Oh, just the same, it is no more than name.

When The Spirit Moves
When the spirit moves it's the summation
of everything I am without definition,
the averaging out of all my existential crucials,
the dark matter of the moment
expressing the perennial insight
not as signs in the light, but light itself.
I don't know what it is or it is not,
maybe just an enculturated meme of antiquated emotion,
or a way of hallowing the next breath I take.
I could be cynical and say it's fake.
But then I'd have to eat my own ashes
with a long spoon, and what would I do
for an encore? Boring if the truth
doesn't leave you gaping in wonder at something.
I've seen the wind at night in full moonlight
silvering the hot gold of the wheat
as if it were cooling a sensitive burn on human skin.
I've seen the fireflies in the valley

Down For The Count
Ladies and Gentlemen, in this corner wieghing
in at 131 pounds, im sorry correction
126 pounds, it's the girl that broke my heart
isn't she lovely folkes just look
at that smile draws me in every time.
Someone call a medic cause i think she's
gonna strike again she slammed down the
phone and gave the finger to the night stand,
that hold the picture in the heart shaped
frame we bought at target yes i think we got
a problem but i can't put my finger on it.
(chorus)
it seems like you told im in over my head
but all i remember is making out constanly
if i don't get out then i'll probally end up dead
she the undisputed champ of my world...
Down for the count over and out toss in the
towel cause she really got the best of me i can't
hang around get kicked while im down what
was that sound I wish the effi'n bell would ring.
