Emotional Holiday
NOTE: Sometimes one just needs a 'me' day escape the daily stress. Here is a little poem just waiting for the right greeting card....
EMOTIONAL HOLIDAY
Edward Iacona
On this Emotional Holiday
It is time to take a rest
From all the pressure that is life
That just might get you stressed.
Never mind the constant running
From pillar and to post.
Time to stop the pedaling
And just lean back and coast.
There are forces out there
That can turn your spirit to toast
So, sip some wine and smile,
For those that love you most.

Work-Girls' Holiday
A lady has a thousand ways
Of doing nothing all her days,
And so she thinks that they're well spent,
She can be idle and content.
But when I have a holiday
I have forgotten how to play.
I could rest idly under trees
When there's some sun or little breeze
Or if the wind should prove too strong
Could lie in bed the whole day long.
But any leisured girl would say
That that was waste of holiday.
Perhaps if I had weeks to spend
In doing nothing without end,
I might learn better how to shirk
And never want to go to work.

Dedication To Providence
I loved to toy with tuneful rhyme,
My fancies into verse to weave;
For as I walked my words would chime
So bell-like I could scarce believe;
My rhymes rippled like a brook,
My stanzas bloomed like blossoms gay:
And that is why I dream this book
A verseman's holiday.
The palm-blades brindle in the blaze
Of sunsets splendouring the sea;
The Gloaming is a lilac haze
That impish stars stab eagerly. . . .
O Land of Song! Oh golden clime!
O happy me, whose work is play!
Please take this tribute of my rhymes:
A verseman's holiday.

Delicious Concoctions
Sweet, delicious concoctions
How delightful it is to see
Brought together by the platefuls
Just for you and me
Sticky and delightful
Chocolate of every color
Ah yes, Valentine’s Day
It is a holiday like no other
Forget about the diet
Just for about a day
For celebrating this holiday
Candy is usually the way
Brownies are delicious too
And such a joy to eat
Once again fill your plate
Of these awesome delicious treats

Money and Friends
When I was a teen my mom would say
“If you know someone you dislike
Loan that bright person some money
And he’d sure disappear from site”
“People that owes you money
Would not call or email to say hello
Would not send a card on a holiday
They’d rather wish you’d go away”
“Friends that asked you for a loan
And you happened to be broke
Would not call or email to say hello
Would not send a card on a holiday”
My smart mommy is always right
I think I’d rather keep happy friends
Ones that don’t need my money and
Ones I like to call and love their emails

Here You Go
a holiday for you
a break from insanity
a path away from lies
but it's only a holiday on your end
'cause i have thoughts that give me goosebumps
and dreams that aren't worthy of being called dreams
i wish for pain from a razorblade
i cry invisable tears
i'm keeping a relationship together
with pieces of paper and pen
i've decided to trust no one
yet still say what is on my mind
only one person can trust and believe me
and them, i try to trust
so everyday i will go on
with goosebumps
dreaming those 'dreams'
wanting the pain from a razorblade
and i will most likely
keep crying

Live well, it's greatest protest
eat your vegetables
drink your milk
take care your parents
do not cheating
talk to your enemies
don't drunk and drive
follow nature law
do not run away
do not contaminate world with your narrow thought
enjoy your bad time
contact your dentist
keep your eyes and mouth
holiday is holiday
pay your bills
turn off television
start to walk, use the stairs
do not whining
do not exaggerate thing
do not swept away by trend
control yourself

A Civic Holiday Trip
Lines on a civic holiday trip on the Grand Trunk,
to Toronto, August, 1882. Address to Mr. Hodge,
conductor of Caledonian games at Ingersoll.
From Ingersoll, on Canadian Thames,
We come to greet mine host of the St. James,
This being our town's civic holiday ;
Yet we remember twenty-fourth of May,
For then at our Caledonian games
He did loud proclaim the victors' names .
We came in part to contribute
To our town's mechanics' institute,
Who got up this grand excursion
Where each one has his own diversion.
Some did remain at Burlington Bay,
While we to Toronto did wend our way,
And came to see this presentation
To stalwart son of Scottish nation.

First Day Of My Holiday
Standing looking out at the valley below
with its small tidal bay.
The tall mast lie drunkenly on angles
as their boats are left stranded
after the tide retreated,
back to its roving wanderings.
The calls of the seagulls
bark in the evening air
as the sunset enriches
the surrounding hills in red and gold.
Little birds take their last flights
before dusk and roosting.
A serene scene to greet my eyes
in a laid-back day,
the first day of my holiday.
Away from the clamouring pace
of a life left behind for two weeks.
Just standing and watching for what joys
my life must prepare for
as the evening clouds begin to gather.
