The Bihar Floods 2008
Fed by the melting snows from Himalayas,
And seven tributaries through the year,
The river Kosi still remains untamed!
A giant ‘water-snake’ that moves side-wards,
Flooding the fields and washing off all huts –
A river that is annually ‘in spate’!
The ‘Kosi’ is the ‘sorrow of Bihar’!
A million people have lost huts and homes;
Many are stranded without shelter, food.
The plight of people is so pathetic;
The helicopters can rescue but few;
The food-packets don’t reach the hungry souls!
They blame a broken barrage near Nepal;
But embankments can’t stop the annual floods;
The river changed its course so many times!

God... Where Are YOU?
Searched for HIM near and far
in temples, mosques, churches and vihars
Browsed Gita, Bible and Quran
peeped into the pages of Vedas and Purans.
Questioned the learned ones, scholars and sages
journeyed in this quest sacred places.
Meditated seeking HIM in lap of the Himalayas
Praying for HIS presence through chanting of mantras.
Sages and savants, answers, could'nt satisfy me
my hunger for HIM, felt, beginning to betray me.
Finding of God particle raised my hope
soon to vanish by another stroke.
Instrumental in forming the Universe, it was revealed
but who made this particle, mystery yet to be unveiled?

The Song of bangle seller
The Song of bangle seller
He sings in all nights to his crying son
to sleep with smile and to forget his mother
Though he is a poor bangle seller
his poem will be too high and luxury
There he compares his son as a prince of his empire and
he leaves his son with the angles to take care
Many plates of royal food will be waiting for him but
his prince Plays with them to his fun
His princess will be from that heaven and
She will bring moon and stars as her gift to that life
River from the Himalayas will come
to wash his palace and his dishes
Rain will shower milk to their bath and
Clouds will come to wipe his wet
Breeze will serve as his maiden to blow air
There his son will smile as Prince of the world
Sun will come and raise him from the bed and

Peace be with you (Latin-Pax Vobiscum)
Oh God! I need a quiet place,
Where flows the nectar of peace,
Not that kind of dead peace,
In the grave, one finds with ease.
I went to the Himalayas Mountain,
But peace there was no certain,
As the solitude tore my mind,
A little peace when I tried to find.
I heard good spiritual lectures,
Those from eminent preachers,
For peace, I left no place unturned,
But with a perturbed mind I returned.
Tell me, oh God, that unknown place,
Where lies that elusive peace,
What I need, now I can find,
So, I’ll have peace of mind.

Towards the Source of the River Ganges
To run off from the rut
We take to travel across
the rift-valleys of the Himalayas
for plundering its charm
and prospering with a peace of soul,
roving up and down and round
though it made us retch at times;
hearing the noise of the rills,
gushng over rocks and boulders
and dozing often in the breeze
sliding over the green slopes
and bathing in the waters of the Ganges
and breathing solace around.
The shooting stones over the moraine
slip them down sending above
the clouds of dusts
to shroud the houses below
and strike fear into us on looking at them.

Team Spirit Conquers Roof Of The World
honoured are our sports heroes
especially our believed All Blacks
decades legendary team spirit
we view them in internationals
epic test matches against Springboks
Wallabies great Rugby nations
chasing elusive pig skin with skills
in national international matches
which makes kiwi blood boil pride
we watched an Auckland bee keeper
explorer mountaineer philanthropist
forge a route through the treacherous
Khumbu Icefall later breach 12 metre
virgin rock face the 'Hillary Step' in
Himalayas near apex Mount Everest

100 days as Medical College Dean (C)
They call me as ‘Chief-guest’.
I’ve little time to rest;
I try to do my best;
I try to be well-dressed.
I feel no more suppressed;
I feel no more oppressed;
I feel no more depressed;
But I’m a bit more stressed!
I know I am quite fit;
I improve bit by bit;
My life looks all alit;
I’m wary of the ‘Pit’!
I know the good from bad;
I know life is quite sad;
I know this world’s mad;
God gave me fine a dad!

Making a Snowman
’Tis snowing in the high mountains
Of great Himalayas:
This winter’s freezing ev’n fountains
Of Poonch, Kargil and Drass!
‘Tis raining flakes of harder snow;
All roads are covered white;
And every tree-top, twig, leaf, bough
Wears a glorious sight!
No blade of grass or bird is seen;
The meadow’s an ice-sheet;
Some Kashmiri children have been
Building a snow-man neat.
Yet, one can hear the booming guns
And smoke billowing up;
While children pile up snow in tons,
Before they go to sup.

The Lost One
The smoke from the incense rises
To envelope me and transport me
Into another reality.
My body's perfume becomes mingled with
The exotic fragrances of a fairytale land.
Cumin, clove, lemon, Corriander, ginger, and garam masala.
I look down and see
my feet
Shackled with the bell adorned anklets the dancers wore
I see my hands covered with red

The Mercurial Nepalese!
The ravishing views of hills,
vales and falls and the luxuriant paddy fields,
the rushing down of streams,
the rivers vending their long course
chanting hymns of praise
of the realm of Himalayas,
filled my mind and heart
and lulled me into a nap.
When the Sun was peeping out
we fell into the web of touts
at Peerganj near Indias’ border.
When the hills hid into dark,
we reached our dreamy Kathmandu.
The leal Nepalese toil and moil
on a soil atop the earth.
They chain the rubble to fence the road
and drive the vehicles with unknown ease.
They dote on the poor Tibetans
and treat the aliens as of their kin.
